Nambe Love

As much as I adore fine china, there are some definite downsides to investing in it.  It’s hard to justify spending so much on something you’re afraid to use lest you (or heaven forbid one of your guests) break it.  While there is something to be said for the effect ‘bringing out the fine china’ has in making a special occasion even more special, it often stays cooped up in a box for a disproportionate amount of the year.  Here’s another absolutely gorgeous, more resilient option to consider in lieu of or in addition to your fine china collection.

Nambe’s
line of Alloy dishware is beautiful enough for the most celebratory occasion, but strong enough for everyday use.  In fact, these aluminum-based pieces are made of eight different metals and were developed by a former scientist from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1953.  Their unique composition allows for them to be preheated up to 500 degrees, chilled in the freezer, and used for both cooking and serving.  They don’t contain lead or silver so they won’t tarnish, chip, crack or break, and they’re hand crafted so no two pieces are exactly alike.  Nambe’ also carries more fragile lines, like their hand cut crystal and stunning porcelain, but they’re best known for their durable Alloy pieces that can literally be used as everyday ware, than passed to the next generation.

I stumbled upon Nambe’ in college while helping a friend register for her wedding and have been enamored with it ever since.  I was reminded of what a special product it is this morning when it appeared as one of the 36 hour sales Gilt Groupe was featuring.  I’ve mentioned Gilt Groupe before, but for those of you who just recently started reading Design Muse A) Welcome, B) Thank You, and C) Here’s a quick overview of what I’m talking about.  Gilt Groupe is an invitation only website that allows it’s users access to spectacular high end designer men, women, children and luxury living sales.  Membership is free, and the savings are significant (up to 70%!).  The only catch is you can’t sign up without an invite, which fortunately you are now privy to through your Design Muse hookup .  Click here to sign up for your free account at our invitation.  Current sales include designers like Helmut Lang, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, Vera Wang and of course Nambe’.  Sales only last for 36 hours, and most items sell out quickly, so hurry!  The Nambe’ sale started about two hours ago, but don’t wait too long or you’ll certainly miss out.
